I think you should update your information. A new law was introduced in Scotland the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 which has dramatically altered the manner of reporting and thereafter securing convictions of accused persons. The conviction rate for rapes has DOUBLED in 2010 from 30% to 62% in comparison to the year before. I think positive reporting of this will not only alert offenders that the usual defences of consent won't sit anymore and also it should assist for the victims to feel more confident about the reporting of such offences, by removing the feeling that because they were so drunk they were therefore unable not to give consent. Please update your information and perhaps publish an article on the positive impacts that this will have.

I think it is great that Uk Feminista has made an attempt to go beyond London (after all the organisation does imply a national remit). However, I am interested to know where the Midlands rep is based and further intrigued to know how the Midlands rep will find out about the feminist activism in the Midlands? And where the event being planned later in the year will actually take place. I hope that women all over the Midlands in all their diversity (geographical and otherwise) will be given as much opportunity to join in as possible.
Thanks

Hello Hazel! I am happy to see that UK Feminista has a regional rep, as i was just looking through the main site to see whom i could write/inform about an upcoming play for International Women's Day. "Goddess" is running at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh 8-10 March 2012. In addition to the play, Strange Theatre has also organised several other events taking place in the Storytelling Centre in the week leading up to Int'l Women's Day and throughout March. You can see the full program in the Centre's brochure (pages 8-9) http://www.scottishstorytellingcentre.co.uk/events/pdf/EventsJan-Mar2012.pdf and you can learn more about the show at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eRAtWqvg-I (We also have a blog and welcome discussion at http://goddesstheplay.wordpress.com/) We would be ever grateful if you and everyone at UK Feminista would pass on this information far and wide, tell people the "Goddess" is returning! We would love to play to full houses, of course, but also if anyone reading this would like to know how to further support the project, please contact Liz at Strange Theatre. Thank you for taking the time to read this. We hope to see you there! On behalf of all at Strange Theatre, from the "Mother Goddess"

I was so delighted when I heard about these marches, and applaud the use of spectacle and humour to raise awareness of this issue. I wrote an absurd play called The Daphne Massacre about customs that maim women about 8 years ago. It's weird and sad that this play is more relevant than ever. Happy to make this script available if it helps the cause.

its a really important issue and i support the march whole heartedly...we seem, however, unable to discuss these issues in anything other than school-boy terminology; slut walk, muff march...how can we expect people (men), to take these issues seriously if we aren't able to talk about our own bodies in straight-forward, adult ways rather than adopting the denigrating, insulting words used by the porn/men's mag culture.
i understand the desire to attract attention with catch titles. but unfortunately, it just comes across as somehow embarrassed. rather than a very serious point made by grown women who can, and will, take ownership, including naming as well as describing and embracing their own bodies.

Thank you!! Australia has a wonderfully strong Deaf culture, as does the UK - however, I believe that the USA are ahead of us in terms of deaf feminism - let's hope things change very soon. Feel free to become a member of Triangle - we welcome people who can sign and accept Deaf culture, not just Deaf people :)

I attended your conference in November, and well it was very Londoncentric notably in the workshops where activities were organised according to whether people were from the North, The East. The South or The West....OF LONDON!!! Nothing wrong with that except the organisation should have been called London Feminista...like London Feminist Network...say what you are on the label and people won't expect other! So it is great to see the announcement about the regional organisers, and that the "UK" in UK Feminista is more than lip service. But these are volunteers and I wonder of the paid jobs will go to people in London.....which would be a real shame! I guess we shall all sit back and wait for that announcement!
