Where are the age verification controls on pornography websites that Parliament voted for?

In 2017, Parliament passed a law making it illegal for commercial pornography websites to allow children to visit their sites. Except, three years on, the Government still hasn’t implemented it.

Part 3 of the Digital Economy Act would require commercial pornography websites to implement age verification checks – just as gambling websites have to. This vital child protection measure received cross-party support and was backed by a broad range of organisations, including NSPCC, Barnardo’s, and the British Board of Film Classification. So why is the Government still failing to implement it?

Pornography websites are continuing to profit from children using their sites – with deeply harmful consequences.

Join this webinar to explore why leading children’s charities called for compulsory age verification, how the Government has stalled on its child protection promises – and what action is needed now.

Speakers include:

  • Andy Burrows – Head of Child Safety Online Policy, NSPCC
  • Meghan Donevan – Manager of Research and Prevention, Talita
  • John Carr OBE – Chair, UK Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety
  • Sarabjit Singh QC – 1 Crown Office Row
  • Chair: Kat Banyard – Director, UK Feminista
