Run a fundraising event

Run a fundraising event for UK Feminista.

Students can play a vital role in supporting UK Feminista’s campaigns for a more equal society. Raising money for UK Feminista will help us to make a lasting difference through our programmes to combat sexism in schools and to tackle sexual exploitation.

Start with an idea

Raising money for UK Feminista will help us to make a lasting difference through our programmes to combat sexism in schools and to tackle sexual exploitation.

How you choose to fundraise for UK Feminista is completely up to you. Here’s some ideas to get you started…

  • Why not organise a cake sale, sponsored sleepover, concert or swim at your school or college and donate the profits to UK Feminista? Most importantly, make it fun!
  • You could ask your school to support you to set up a year-long project to take action against sexism and sexual harassment, or set up a Feminist Group, which includes running fundraising activities for UK Feminista’s work to combat sexism in schools. Student ambassadors for the scheme could present the project to a group of parents to ask for help.

Once you have an idea, you can get planning! Below are some useful tips to help you organise your event.

Choose a date and location

Start with getting permission for your event, from a teacher if you’re holding it at school.

Next, schedule a date that you know friends and classmates will be available, so that you can ask for their support on the day. You might want to think about a date to coincide your event with, such as International Women’s Day, International Day of the Girl Child or the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Will the event take place outside? Or is the weather forecast likely to mean an inside location would work better? Will you need to set up the space in advance? Talk to a teacher to find out which spaces will be available.

Make sure to leave enough time for planning and promoting the event to members of your school or college community.

Set a fundraising target

Set a target to motivate yourself! Think about any materials you might need to spend to organise the event – could anybody donate refreshments or anything else you need for your event, such as a local café or shop?

Promote your fundraiser

Depending on what type of event you’re organising, you could promote your event on social media, in letters to parents, community newsletters or on noticeboards in libraries and local shops. Why not write an article in your school newspaper or even approach your local paper or radio station to raise awareness of the event?

Be sure to take lots of photos to share online afterwards to thank your supporters and tag UK Feminista so we can share your successes!

Count and send the funds

After the event is over and the money is counted, please send the funds via our website. Make sure at least two people are involved in handling and recording the money, and that it is paid into the bank as soon as possible. If you need help sending your donation, please get in touch at info@ukfeminista.org.uk

Please remember, UK Feminista cannot accept any liability for your fundraising activities, so you’ll need to make sure you think about health, safety and legal considerations. For example, make sure you follow food hygiene advice if your event involves food, and make sure photos are not shared publicly without the required permissions from students and parents.  If you’re under the age of 18, it is important to ask for help from a trusted adult, such as a teacher. There are some types of fundraising children cannot carry out.

It is also important to make clear that your event is ‘in aid of’ UK Feminista, as opposed to an official event organised by UK Feminista.

UK Feminista is a nonprofit company limited by guarantee established for charitable purposes.
